An immigration attorney manages foreigners' legal stay in Mexico: work visas, temporary and permanent residence, regularization and naturalization, as well as the obligations of companies hiring foreign personnel. At KNR Abogados we serve both companies with expatriates and individuals and families in their immigration process.
Legal mobility for companies and individuals
The Migration Law and its regulations structure foreigners’ stay in Mexico under three conditions: visitor, temporary resident, and permanent resident. Working also requires the corresponding permit and, on the company’s side, the employer registration certificate before the National Migration Institute (INM). A well-planned process takes weeks; an improvised one can cost fines, denials, and unnecessary trips out of the country.
From expatriate to naturalization
We support the full cycle: residence visas based on job offers processed at consulates, exchanges before the INM, renewals, family unity, changes of condition and regularizations, up to permanent residence and naturalization before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE). For companies, we maintain immigration corporate compliance: change notices, departures of foreign staff, and preventive audits.

Resolvemos tus dudas
What does my company need to hire a foreigner?
First, the employer registration certificate before the INM. With it, the company submits the job offer with which the candidate applies for a residence visa at the corresponding Mexican consulate and, once in Mexico, exchanges the visa for a resident card with work permit. The whole process usually takes six to twelve weeks.
What is the difference between temporary and permanent residence?
Temporary residence authorizes renewable stays of one to four years, generally tied to work, family, or investment. Permanent residence is indefinite and is obtained after four years of temporary residence, through family ties, retirement with sufficient means, or humanitarian reasons. It eliminates renewals and grants full work freedom.
Can I regularize my status if my immigration document expired?
Yes, in most cases. The Migration Law provides for regularization for expired documents within certain deadlines, through family ties, or for humanitarian reasons, upon paying the corresponding fine. Acting quickly matters: prolonged irregular status complicates the process and exposes you to greater penalties.
